Solar Cooking

Solar cooking can be done in the back yard on a sunny day without use of electricity or gas.  Children and adults alike may enjoy solar cookers, which come in many configurations, some simple some complex, and are available for sale at a wide range of prices.  The simpler cookers generally produce lower temperatures, whereas the sophisticated models can produce temperatures over 350F.  Learn about energy and sustainability while doing something practical with your family.  Experiment to find the strategies that work best.

Solar cookers can be built out of cardboard boxes, umbrellas, or automobile windshield sun shields, to list only a few of the options.  They can be used for camping, cooking in emergencies, or routine meals at home.

Cantina West Enterprises offers a website that encourages you jump right in.  It is a practical entry point for purchasing or building your own solar cooker.   https://www.solarcooker-at-cantinawest.com/buildingasolarcooker.html
