Sources of Positive News

There has been a concerted effort in some circles to counteract the tendency for news media to focus on problems, from corruption in politics to hurricanes: disasters and downers of all sorts.  Now you can find news sources with a positive spin.  Where do we look for inspiration?   What might make us cheerful, and inclined to contribute to a positive world?

Hats off to these and other efforts to shift the nature of news.

"We tell stories that reveal that there are, in fact, a surprising number of reasons to feel cheerful. Many of these reasons come in the form of smart, proven, replicable solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. We’re here to tell you about some of them. Through sharp reporting, our stories balance a sense of healthy optimism with journalistic rigor, and find cause for hope. We are part magazine, part therapy session, part blueprint for a better world."

Solutions Based Journalism

An organization of journalists communicating with other journalists, Solutions Based Journalism also offers avenues for reader engagement.

"Our mission is to spread the practice of solutions journalism: rigorous reporting on responses to social problems. We seek to rebalance the news, so that every day people are exposed to stories that help them understand problems and challenges, and stories that show potential ways to respond."
